Axisforge was founded in Berlin in 2019 by two ex-AWS and ex-Datadog platform engineers. After spending years designing high-throughput ingestion clusters and troubleshooting production out-of-memory outages for major tech companies, they recognized a gap. Fast-growing software companies needed expert platform engineering advice, but couldn't justify hiring a massive systems team full-time.
Initially, Axisforge operated as a two-person boutique, taking on complex infrastructure audits and performance reviews for friends-of-friends in the Berlin SaaS scene. By word of mouth, demand grew. We slowly added specialist engineers, remaining highly selective. We hired engineers who had survived major cloud outages and understood the realities of running high-scale systems.
By 2024, our group expanded to 12 engineers split between our headquarters in Berlin and engagement offices in Amsterdam and Lisbon. We have stayed deliberately small. We do not hire junior developers, and we do not use account managers. When you engage with Axisforge, you work directly with the senior engineers who design and execute the architecture changes.
Rushed deployments and hacky scripts create tech debt that drags down velocity for years. We spend the extra time writing modular, readable Terraform config and robust scripts. The infrastructure should outlast our engagement.
True cost saving does not come from shut-down scripts or developer warnings. It comes from optimizing query performance, container density, and networking paths. We solve cloud spend by improving the design.
Undocumented infrastructure is a ticking clock. Every single deployment pattern, network configuration, and failover script must be documented. We supply complete Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and up-to-date runbooks with every delivery.
We do not deploy Kubernetes because it is popular, and we do not choose serverless because it is new. We evaluate the scale, database footprints, and developer experience to select the simplest tools that get the job done reliably.
We deliberately don't list our engineers publicly on our website. We are a small, highly technical team focused on delivery rather than marketing profiles. When you start an engagement with Axisforge, you will work directly with the senior engineering staff you meet on the intake call.
